The Senior Men’s
Golf Association (SMGA) is open to all male golfers at WCC who have
reached the age of 55 or older. The SMGA meets annually, usually in
February, for the purpose of electing officers and any other
business that may require action. Special meeting may also be held
as necessary. The organization participates primarily in four types
of events during the year.
-
The Tidewater Retired Men’s Golf Association (TRMGA),
which is a senior golf league consisting of five private clubs.
They are Cavalier, Cedar Point, Elizabeth Manor, James River,
and WCC. Matches include 12 players from each club and each
club host’s two matches per year. The cost is $30 per player
and includes golf, cart and lunch. All TRMGA events use the
player’s most recent handicap. Qualifying matches to select the
WCC team are held approximately one week prior to the scheduled
TRMGA match.
-
The Williamsburg Cup, a senior golf league consisting of
five local golf clubs: Ford’s Colony, Golden Horseshoe,
Kingsmill, Two Rivers, and WCC. Two matches are held between
WCC and each of the other clubs, one at home and the other away
for a total of eight. Each club uses a 12-player team 6 gross
and 6 net). Maximum handicap is 18. All matches include six
two-player teams from each club (3 gross and 3 net). Cost is
the respective club’s cart fee. Lunch is not included. Net
players are generally selected from the most recent prior
qualifying.
-
Home and Home matches are generally held with two other
clubs in the area, one at home and one away. Cost for these
events are $55 for both home and away events. Matches are full
handicap and generally include from 24 to 36 players.
-
The SMGA also participates with the Ladies Association
for two “Guys and Dolls” tournaments each year. These matches
are mixed Captain’s Choice events.
The SMGA holds an annual “Wrap-Up” tournament at the end of
the season for SMGA members who have participated in qualifying
matches and other matches during the year. This event is now known
as the “Stu Cup” in honor of WCC’s patriarch of golf and our own
most senior SMGA member, our buddy, Stu Will.
